Burkina Faso
Since 2019, Ground Truth Solutions has been surveying aid recipients in Burkina Faso and advocating for their opinions to drive humanitarian aid programming.
With increased attacks by armed groups, Burkina Faso is now one of the fastest growing displacement contexts in the world.
Our work in Burkina Faso commenced in 2019, when we partnered with the British Red Cross (BRC) and developed a feedback mechanism for people on the move.
In 2020, we began collaborating with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Community Engagement and Accountability Working Group to support the systematic collection and analysis of aid recipients’ feedback. We survey both displaced and non-displaced communities receiving aid to ensure their voices are heard by the humanitarian country team and advocate for humanitarian plans to be centred on these people’s opinions.
In August 2020, we collected feedback from displaced and non-displaced people living in the Centre-Nord and Sahel regions on their experience receiving humanitarian aid and the impact COVID-19 was having on their lives. Findings informed the next year’s Humanitarian Needs Overview (HNO) and Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). The project was supported by H2H’s surge capacity funding.
Building on the baseline data from 2020, we spoke to aid recipients living in the six main regions targeted by the humanitarian response (Boucle du Mouhoun, Centre-Est, Centre-Nord, Est, Nord, and Sahel) to understand their opinions on the overall humanitarian response. We also track if and how people’s perceptions about aid programming change over time in the Centre-Nord and Sahel regions.
Our aim is to contribute to a humanitarian culture that systematically listens, responds and adapts to aid recipients’ opinions.
